Fashion Flash: Meet Anna Wintour, Rodarte’s Petite Saut to film, Whitney Port Sued

If “The September Issue” didn’t satisfy your Parasocial interaction with Anna Wintour, maybe meeting her in person will.  The Vogue Editor-in-Chief will speak at Pratt Institute for its sixteenth annual President’s Lecture series.  The event, set to take place on Monday, April 19 at 6 pm is free and open to the public.  The lecture will follow with a question and answer session with Hamish Bowles, Vogue European Editor at Large.  Don’t forget to secure your spot at events@pratt.edu before the other aspiring fashion editors beat you to it.

W Magazine has been in a flurry of news bites since the fashion magazine separated from the Fairchild Fashion Group, breaking from the senior editorial staff it shared with Womens Wear Daily, including Chairman and Editorial Director Patrick McCarthy.  Condé Nast just announced that Stefano Tonchi will take over as Editor-in-Chief on April 12.  Before his appointment, Tonchi was the creator and Editor-in-Chief of T: The New York Times Style Magazine.  A replacement at T has not yet been announced.

If you’re not already anticipating the release of Darren Aronofsky’s new thriller, “Black Swan” (Natalie Portman, Winona Ryder, Mila Kunis), you now have a fashionable reason to.  Sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy, the geniuses behind Rodarte, designed costumes for a “Swan Lake” scene in the thriller based on a rival between ballet dancers.  The two are more than qualified for the film’s designs, as their Fall 2008 ready to wear collection cited Japanese horror films among its influences.  While you’re waiting to see the film (a date has not been announced), check out Rodarte’s top ten list of Criterion Collection films while listening to “Black Swan” by Thom Yorke.

Any fans of “The City” out there?  You may have heard about reality star Whitney Port’s clothing line, Whitney Eve, but what you don’t know is that it may not be based on her original designs. Not according to Adrienne Baravetto, anyway.  The designer is suing Port under the claim that the two began collaborating on a women’s clothing line in 2007 called Eve & A.  There was no written contract, but Baravetto was allegedly offered an $80,000 yearly salary and 25 percent of the company— through an oral agreement.  Words of advice: never trust an agreement not formalized in writing.
