The Season That Came and Went: A Photo Story

All photographs by Patricia Bruce

Remember that glorious week (or so) when spring came to visit? The high was almost eighty degrees and all of the tights and leggings said goodbye? The week that, now, seems to have been a myth?

Originally, this photo story was going to detail the excitement and thrill that came with an “early spring.” However, it quickly changed to represent what seems like this spring’s sad and, well, premature demise. Although April showers usually bring May flowers, this year, all these terribly cold April showers have killed and confused the March flowers into having no idea what season it is. Clearly the nearly snowless winter wasn’t enough; Mother Nature has decided to fool us all once again.

Beautiful pink flowers graced trees all over Boston on April 1, 2012.
Even though flowers were everywhere, so were dreary, grey skies.
Even the Boston University Maintenance Department expected spring to stick around a bit, planting flowers around campus.
My personal favorite spring-tree, soaked with rain, on April 1, 2012.
A small, flowering tree fought to stay happy on Bay State, despite a sad rainy day.
A dismal spring scene with a bloomed tree and bench outside the School of Social Work.
Flowers failed to flourish in early April's harsh winds.
Yes, the wind killed the flowers.
Green summer leaves are popping up in trees all over Boston, although it's only early April.

Some trees have completely greened out already!

With that being said (and shown), we can only guess what Mother Nature has in store for summer!
