Newsic Music September 12th-18th: Katy Perry, Rihanna, No Doubt

With a disappointingly average week for the charts (Adele and LMFAO remain among top five-ers…surprise), the rest of the industry was chugging right along slow and steady behind them. Katy Perry is releasing her hundredth (read: sixth) Teenage Dream single, Rihanna and No Doubt talk upcoming releases and Snoop Dogg is set to make his sitcom debut.

Katy Perry Announces Next ‘Teenage Dream’ Single

Katy Perry is set to drop her next Teenage Dream single, “The One That Got Away,” next month. Teenage Dream already graced the charts with five number-one singles, and if “The One” hits the Billboard top spot, Perry could go down in hitmaking history. She is currently tied with the late Michael Jackson as having the most number-ones from a single album, needing just one more hit to break records.

Rihanna Talks Her Fall Album Release, Musical Influences

Rihanna announced via Twitter on Friday that her next album will drop sometime this fall; however, no dates have been confirmed. She also tweeted her love of dubstep, hinting that it could be inspiration for the new record’s sound: “You KNOW how I been lovin Dubstep since Rated R.” Ri-Ri’s producer Verse Simmonds confirmed to MTV News that “she’s closing the album up now” and that his work with production duo the Jugganauts will be featured on the record.

No Doubt Postpone Sixth Album to 2012

No Doubt’s long-awaited sixth album has been further delayed to early 2012. The ska-rockers have been hard at work on a new full-length after a ten-year break since 2001’s Rock Steady. The band has been working on the album since 2008, and will highlight their diverse musical influences, from ska to reggae to dance. No Doubt told fans via their official website that “Ideally our new record would be coming out this year but it’s just not ready yet. We don’t want to rush this album just to get it out. This collection of songs means everything to us and our only priority right now is to make sure that it’s the best album we can possibly make. There is still more work for us to do. …”

Snoop Dogg in Talks for Sitcom Deal

Reality TV veteran Snoop Dogg is said to be developing a family sitcom at Warner Bros. TV. He will be teaming up with producer Don Reo on the project, which will star the rapper as the father. Also look out for Snoop’s collaboration with Wiz Khalifa on the film High School, which is in production now.
